Paper Maché Puffer Fish :)
You Will Need
Balloon
Newspaper
Scissors
Paints
String
Toilet paper roll or construction paper
Glue
Ping pong ball or foam ball
For the paper-maché mix
2 cups flour
4 cups of cold water
A bowl
Instructions
*Make sure your parent or guardian helps you with this!
- Blow up your balloon to the size you would like to make your fish.
- Tie string around your balloon, (like you would tie ribbon around a box) and leave extra so you can hang it up later.
- Cut or tear your newspaper into strips.
- Mix together the flour and water in a bowl to make a paste.
- Dip the newspaper strips in the paste and use your fingers to slide off any extra. This is your paper-maché!
- Cover your balloon with paper-maché, leaving the know of the balloon uncovered. You’ll want to build up several layers.
- Make your fish’s mouth by cutting the construction paper into a 1/2 inch strip and rolling it into a tube.
- Place your tube over the balloon know and attach it to your fish with more newspaper strips sipped into the paper-maché paste. Be careful not to cover the know. (You’ll need to pop the balloon and pull out later.)
- Cut your ping pong ball or foam ball in half to make the eyes/
- Place them on the fish and attach them with paper-maché.
- Create the puffer fish spikes by rolling up dry strips of newspaper, and pasting them on the balloon with paper-maché.
- Let the paper-maché dry overnight.
- While you’re waiting for the fish to dry, cut out the fins for your fish and color them.
- Once completely dry, pop the balloon and pull it out of the fish.
- Now you can get creative and paint your puffer fish.
- Cut out the fins from the printout, and glue them onto your fish.
- Once the paint dries your puffer fish is ready to show off!

Gone Fishing :)
You Will Need
1 long piece of string
1 magnet
1 wooden spoon or stick
Paperclips
Printouts
Scissors
Crayons, markers or paints
How to play
- Cut out the underwater treasures from the printout and color them in
- Attach the paperclip to each of your treasures
- Place your treasure on the ground
- Tie one end of the string to your magnet
- Tie the other end to the wooden spoon, or stick. You now have your fishing rod!
- Use your fishing rod to try and catch the treasure
- To make it more challenging you can put a barrier between you and the fish so you can’t see where they are. Or try to only catch the fish, and not the anvils and boots.
- You can also challenge your friend! Take turns and see who can catch the most fish in the shortest amount of time Or make two fishing rods and go head-to-head and go fishing at the same time.
