How to write a Hit!

A rare look inside a writing session. By Franky — Headed to the SoundStudio to work on your next big single? Or maybe you’re just making music for yourself? Well, here are some tricks me and the boys use when we’re writing. Be Inspired!

First, you gotta come up with a “hook”. That’s the coolest part of the song. The bit that gets stuck in your head. In SoundStudio, it could be a funny noise, or a sweet drum beat. Once you find it, figure out when you’re gonna use it in the song. I like putting the hook nice and early so everyone starts tapping their feet right away. Then you just wanna build in the parts around your hook. Once you know where you’re headed, it’s a lot easier to figure it out! Keep adding loops until it sounds just right. Petey K and I love to experiment. You never know when a cowbell will totally make a song work! But let us know what’s working for you guys too. Cadence: What’s up, Zendaya? Ur rocking the stage on the Music Cruise. How’s it been?
Zendaya: It’s crazy fun up there, you know? The crowd is just going wild and you’re on this cruise ship out on the water.
Cadence: For sure! Now, they call you a triple threat. Ur an actor, dancer, AND a singer. Do u have a favorite?
Zendaya: Well, I think they’re all like a part of me. If I took any one of those away, it just wouldn’t be me.
Cadence: Totally ICE! The last thing everyone wants 2 know—what emote do you want the crowd 2 do at your show?
Zendaya: I just want them to dance! They gotta bust a move for my song.
Cadence: Oh yeah! That won’t be a problem. U can all show off ur moves at Zendaya’s show on July 25.

How did you come up with the cruise?–Anne Core
I thought it would be totes fun to party on a boat! Plus, I kinda needed a way to get all the stars to Club Penguin. They couldn’t all fit on a tour bus! (DUDES! I asked Gary for a triple-decker bus, but he was like, “It would be impractical.”) I think he means “practically the best idea EVAH”, but whatevs, we got a cruise ship now! Now we’ve had shows in the Dance Club, on the roof, in Big Momma’s House, and on the ocean!

Good question! I love performing. And SoundStudio was AMAZING. But maybe I'll get back 2 working on my moves. I gotta make the next big dance craze!

Cole Plante: Oh, no problem. I mean, it’s on a cruise ship. I had to come!
Cadence: I LUV ur remixes. I know ur really into film scores. I can totes hear that in ur tracks. They get so EPIC!
Cole Plante: Thanks. I listen to a lot of different styles, but I’m really into film scores. Cool that you heard it in there.

Cole Plante: Haha. Can I choose anything? Then throw up your joysticks for me! That would be sweet.
