Club Penguin Online Safety :)

Club Penguin has added 7 new topics about Online Safety on their Safety Help page :)

  • What is a third party program, and why shouldn't I use one?

  • What is personal information and how do I keep it safe?

  • What is a ban?

  • Where can I find more information about online safety? - For Parents

  • What do I do if someone else is bullying me, or someone else online?

  • How do I choose a secure password?

  • Where can I find more information about online safety? - For Kids

What is a third party program, and why shouldn't I use one?

A third party program is a website or program that isn’t associated with Club Penguin. These sites or programs are used to do things in Club Penguin, or get items that wouldn’t normally be possible. Using these sites or programs is considered cheating, and may result in a ban.
These other sites, or programs won't protect your penguin account like Club Penguin does, or offer the same safety measures. If you use your penguin name and password on a third party program, someone else could use it to log onto your penguin account. Downloading programs also puts your computer at risk, since you could get a virus.
If you’re not sure if a site or program is a third party program, please check with your parent or guardian. If they think it is, ask them to contact our Player Support Team.

What is personal information and how do I keep it safe?

Personal information includes your real name, email, home address, phone number, school, or usernames on other sites.

To stay safe, you should never use personal information when you are choosing your penguin name or password, or creating usernames on other sites. It’s also important to never talk about these things with other players online.

Club Penguin doesn't allow users to discuss other websites or social networks where personal information could be shared. Remember that this is one of the most important rules. Players who ask for, or share personal information on Club Penguin will be banned.

Our word filter prevents players from discussing personal information, but if someone asks you for it, tell your parent or guardian right away. You can also report them by clicking on the “M” (Report Player) icon on their Player Card.

What is a ban?

A ban is a suspension that is placed on an account when a penguin has broken the Club Penguin Rules. During a ban, the account cannot be used.
Bans can be placed for 24 hours, 72 hours, or could be permanent. When a ban is placed, the player will see a message indicating the length of time left until the penguin is allowed back online.
If an account has been banned, we encourage you to review the Club Penguin Rules to make sure you understand them.
For further info about the ban, (or to re-secure an account accessed by someone other than the account owner) contact our Player Support Team.

Where can I find more information about online safety? - For Parents :)

We partner with a number of brilliant organizations that are dedicated to educating parents and children about online safety.

CEOP

The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre is a UK police agency that works directly, or in partnership with local and international forces to protect children online. In 2012, Disney Interactive signed an official Online Safety partnership with them. This made Club Penguin the only official virtual world to partner with CEOP. www.ceop.police.uk/safety-centre

Childnet International
Childnet International is a non-profit organization working with others to help make the internet a great and safe place for children. Childnet works closely with our team of moderators, and provides training to educate children in online safety. www.childnet-int.org

Common Sense Media
Common Sense Media is an impartial, non-profit organization. They provide trustworthy information and tools to give families a better understanding about the media they consume. www.commonsensemedia.org

It is coordinated by a partnership of three leading organizations; Childnet International, the South West Grid for Learning and the Internet Watch Foundation and co-funded by the European Commission. www.saferinternet.org.uk

ChicosNet

As part of our commitment to safety, Club Penguin helped ChicosNet develop a program, which involved creating an educational kit for schools. www.chicos.net

SaferNet

SaferNet is a Brazilian non-governmental organization that works with the Federal Public Ministry to stop internet crime. It allows users to report crime anonymously, and gives info and training about internet safety. www.safernet.org.br

What do I do if someone else is bullying me, or someone else online?

If you encounter a mean or rude penguin while playing, you can report them to our moderation team. Click the “M” (Report Player) icon on their player card to report a player. Our moderators will review the report and ban any penguins who have broken the rules.
After reporting the penguin, you can also add them to your Ignore List, by clicking on the “ghost” (Ignore Player) icon on their Player Card. Once they’re on your Ignore List, you will no longer see what that penguin says or does. You could also go to a different room, or switch servers.
Tell your parent, guardian, or other trusted adult anytime you see bullying anywhere, or are bullied yourself, so that it can be stopped.
Learn more about the safety partners Club Penguin works with.

How do I choose a secure password?

A secure password is one that someone else can't guess, no matter how well they know you. Keep your password a secret from everyone, except your parent or guardian. Not even your best friend should know your password!
Password Tips:

  • Choose a password that's at least 8 characters long (a character can be a letter, number, or symbol).
  • Use a combination of numbers (1234), letters (abcde), and symbols (!@#$). You can even use CAPITAL letters.
  • Try making up your own word, or combine a few of your favorite words, (for example, your favorite animal and Disney character). Just don’t use something your friends would guess.
  • Don't use your birthday, street address, or school name.

Once you have a secure password, use these tips to keep it safe:

  • Never share your password with your friends
  • Don’t check “Remember me on this computer” or “Remember my password” if you are playing on a public computer (at school, at a library, at a friend’s house)
  • Never enter your penguin name and/or password on any website other than the official clubpenguin.com site

If you think someone else knows your password, or if you need help choosing a secure one, please contact our Player Support Team.

Club Penguin Riot!

As all that reads this blog already know I’m NOT a Fan of the Disney Advertising Parties that are forced upon us as I think it takes away the uniqueness of Club Penguin! Right now we have a Marvel Super Hero Takeover War and as a result our once upon a time Friendly and Funny online world is destroyed and reminds me about the England Riots! Sadly Riots sometimes happen in different places around the world and as a result people get hurt or killed and private and public properties destroyed so here are some questions to Chris Heatherly (Spike Hike) and his Team: What do you think is Fun with a burning building and destroyed fire station and rescue vehicles?

…What’s Fun with attacking a hospital and destroying private property?

…What’s Fun with destroying coffee shop, newspaper office, dance club and clothes shop?

…What’s Fun with destroying a harbor and market place?

…What’s Fun with destroying a zoo and public park?

…What’s Fun with attacking a pet shop, hotel, police station and bank?

...What’s Fun with attacking stores and destroying the infrastructure of a community?

…Before the Marvel Party started Disney Club Penguin invited media people (mostly Mums) to Kelowna with the intension that they would blog positive about the game! When you at Club Penguin showed them Sneak Peeks from the Marvel Party did you also show them how the Club Penguin Island would be bombed and destroyed? Hmmm…No you DIDN'T!!! Why didn't you?

Sneak Peeks shown at Club Penguin media Summit!

#ClubPenguinSummit what CP doesn’t tell Media!

Right now Disney Club Penguin has invited media people to a “Summit” at the Club Penguin headquarter in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada and they will get some behind the scenes secrets :) This Club Penguin Media Summit is an Advertise Event! Chris Heatherly aka “Spike Hike” and his Team will do their best to promote and show off Club Penguin on its best side BUT I’m sure they will leave out some very interesting Safety Facts as there both have been and still are safety collapses within the Club Penguin Game they DON’T want the media, journalists and press to know about!

1. Club Penguin has still not fixed the old Friends List Bug and due to that it’s extremely hard to protect ourselves from bullies: How to Ignore and Remove Penguins?

2. Anyone could hack themselves into anyone's Friends List! Club Penguin is wide open to Bullies and other Weirdos!

3. Club Penguin gave out children’s Penguin names and their addresses Security Lapses at Club Penguin!

I hope everyone that are invited to the Club Penguin Media Summit will have a FUN time and also help us kids by asking Chris Heatherly and his Team to quickly fix the safety problems within the online game! I have blogged about Club Penguin for almost 5 years and I LOVE this Game :) My wish and hope is that CP one day will be a SAFER Place then it is today and if we work TOGETHER I’m sure it will be :)

Rad Helmet BUG ANNIVERSARY!

Today it’s 1 Whole YEAR since Disney Club Penguin created a BUG that removed the Rad Helmet item! Even though it would only take a few minutes for a skilled programmer to fix this problem CP DON’T! Sadly I have learned time and time again that Club Penguin are both Very LAZY and sometimes totally INCOMPETENT when it comes to fixing Bugs and I STILL wonder how long time it will take them to fix this! Time to give us Rad Helmet Back!?! CONGRATS Club BUG to the UNHAPPY RAD HELMET BUG ANNIVERSARY!

ATTENTION! This is ANOTHER Disney Commercial offer that looks WAY better than it is!

Questions to ask yourself BEFORE buying a Membership with Limited Bonus items:

1. Did you know that you can buy a Gingerbread Igloo yourself from the Igloo Catalog as soon as you are a Member? It looks almost as the Deluxe Gingerbread House in the Picture that was available last year!

2. More than 10 items? How many and what items? Are the items you get available in the Furniture Catalog as soon as you are a member?

3. The Gingerbread Costume is not available in Club Penguin right now BUT it might be during the Holiday Party 2012…time will tell!

4. ALL Members can buy a White Puffle in the Pet Shop! And the Candy Cane Puffle Hat the Puffle wear in the picture is NOT RARE AT ALL! Members can buy it in the Puffle Catalog!

5. The Free Music download code to “Cool in the Cold” is COOL! BUT will it work to redeem where you live?

6. Will you get the Bonus Holiday Party Pack if you buy a 1 month or 6 months membership OR is this offer EXCLUSIVE for buyers of the 12 months membership? (I guess it’s only for the 12 months membership)

Message to Disney Club Penguin: STOP trying to Rip us off! When the items you offer are available to buy for members in Club Penguin Online you FOOL Parents to believe their kids get something extra with the membership when they in fact are NOT! SHAME ON YOU!!!

Sadly this is NOT the First time Disney Club Penguin pulls this Trick!
