Although Halloween is still several weeks away, many penguins are already getting into the spine-tingling spirit.

I found Gary examining some of the island’s most mysterious Halloween artifacts. “I’ve studied this extensively,” he said, picking up an antique key. “It doesn’t fit any lock on the island, but it glows when you bring it inside the Pizza Shop.” “And this book of spells screams when you flip to page 157. Most baffling, empirically speaking.”

“Ahh, and of course there’s the exceptionally strange disappearance of my Great Uncle Gariwald VIII,” added Gary, holding up a photograph. “Vanished without a trace. Mansion and all.” “A most peculiar mystery. Perhaps this year I can get to the bottom of it!” Get ready for a positively frightening month of terrifying discovery. The party starts Oct. 18. The Scariest Igloo Contest Ever!

When is it?
Decorators can submit an igloo design between October 11–16. So get started! You’ll find scary supplies and daring décor in the new Halloween edition of the Furniture Catalog, in your igloo next week.

How do I enter?
When your igloo is ready for the judges, click the yellow igloo icon to enter. And if you want to update with more frightening finery? Submit it again! Judging is based on the last design you submit.

Who decides the winner?
YOU! For the first time ever, winners will be chosen based on total number of LIKES. Of course our judges will still be making their rounds to see all the gruesome designs and offer their opinions on which igloos spook the cake.

Dear Hal, Funny you should ask. When one of my reporters showed up to the Newsroom with bat wings, I realized it was time to start thinking about my Halloween costume. Penguin Style is packed full of ideas—an old-fashioned maid’s uniform. Creepy doll makeup. A cheesy slice of pizza. Brilliant! After a few hours of planning and focused deliberation, I came up with the perfect idea... (wait for it)... Chief Editor of a local newspaper! Stylish glasses. Classic pink hat. Fierce wit—capable of scaring any source into revealing top secret information. Terrifying! What do you think? Tee hee! I do amuse myself. All joking aside, I like to combine different costume pieces. Perhaps I’ll be a haunted watermelon. Or a lobster super villain with bat wings. I’ve yet to decide. Best of luck constructing a unique costume of your own!

Dear Pitch, Wonderful question. The Club Penguin sky does have a tendency to darken over the Halloween season. I spoke with Gary the Gadget Guy for his expert opinion. “I can say with 99.87% accuracy that the electromagnetic radiation in the sky will decrease. I predict we will see these effects by the latter period of this month.” “By which I mean to say: yes. It will be dark.” “According to the latest data from my Creep-O-static 3000, this year’s Halloween party may be the most ectoplasmic, pili-elevating—that is to say, hair-raising—spook fest yet.” “And if my calculations are wrong, I will invent a high frequency infrared reversion laser to clear the sky of light myself. It has to be dark for Halloween!” So Pitch, it sounds like Club Penguin will be plunged into utter darkness. Happy trick-or-treating!
